We believe PE and sports play an important role in teaching pupils important qualities such as discipline, communication, team work, resilience and ambition. This in turn can lead to improved concentration, attitude and academic achievement.
The Sports Premium Grant is additional funding from the Government to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. It is also for improving the health and wellbeing of primary pupils. Schools must spend the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils, but they are free to choose the best way of using the money.
Since September 2013, Ofsted inspections report on how primary schools spend their Sports Premium Grant. Schools are accountable for the way they spend the grant, and must publish details of how they spend the grant on their website.
Schools with 16 or fewer eligible pupils receive £1,000 per pupil.
Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.
