The Impact of RE

The aim of RE in Lincolnshire

Our Religious Education curriculum follows the Lincoln Diocesan Board of Education's Curriculum, which places a strong emphasis on developing pupils’ understanding of religion and worldviews in a broad, balanced and academically rigorous way. We adopt a worldview approach, recognising that every pupil—and every adult—interprets the world through a unique set of experiences, beliefs, values and assumptions. This approach enables pupils to explore how people make sense of life, how they form their identities, and how different worldviews shape the ways individuals and communities live.
Our Core Principles
•     Inclusive and plural: We teach RE in a way that reflects the diversity of worldviews found locally, nationally and globally. This includes religious, non‑religious and mixed worldviews.
•     Disciplinary thinking: Pupils learn to think like theologians, philosophers and social scientists, developing the skills to interpret texts, analyse beliefs, and understand lived experience.
•     Knowledge-rich and enquiry-led: Our curriculum builds secure knowledge of key concepts, practices and traditions while encouraging pupils to ask thoughtful questions and engage critically with ideas.
•     Personal development: We support pupils in reflecting on their own developing worldviews, helping them articulate their values, consider ethical issues, and understand others with empathy and respect.
How We Implement the Worldview Approach
•     We explore organised worldviews (such as Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Humanism and others) alongside personal worldviews, helping pupils understand both shared traditions and individual variation.
•     We teach that worldviews are complex, dynamic and diverse, avoiding stereotypes and encouraging pupils to appreciate nuance.
•     We use a range of texts, case studies, lived experiences and community links to show how beliefs are expressed in real life.
•     We ensure progression from encounter and exploration in the early years to analysis and evaluation by the end of Key Stage 2 and beyond.
Our Aim
Our aim is to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and dispositions they need to navigate a diverse world with confidence. By understanding a range of worldviews—and reflecting on their own—pupils learn to think deeply, communicate respectfully, and engage with others in a spirit of curiosity and openness.

Withdrawal from Religious Education
In line with Section 71 of the School Standards and Framework Act (1998), parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education. This right applies because RE is a statutory part of the curriculum for all pupils, but it is not part of the National Curriculum.

We encourage parents to discuss any concerns with the school before making a decision, as the worldview approach used in the Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus is inclusive, non‑confessional and educational, rather than promoting any particular religion or belief. Our aim is to ensure parents fully understand the nature and purpose of RE as taught in our school.
