At St Peter's CE Primary School, our vision is for every child to develop a sense of wonder about the world around them, beginning with the science they can see and experience in their everyday lives and expanding outward to understand the wider natural and technological world. We want pupils to think scientifically, ask questions, seek answers and recognise their role in shaping a sustainable future.
Our science curriculum builds pupils’ understanding of the world by starting with their immediate surroundings—plants, animals, materials and forces they encounter daily—and gradually broadening their knowledge to include wider scientific ideas, global phenomena and the impact of science on society. Through learning about biology, chemistry and physics, pupils develop a secure understanding of both the natural world and the processes that drive change within it.
We aim for pupils to become confident young scientists who can plan and carry out enquiries, observe closely, test ideas, interpret results and use evidence to draw conclusions. They learn to question, to challenge assumptions and to understand that scientific knowledge is built through curiosity, investigation and discovery.
Sustainability is woven throughout the curriculum, helping pupils understand how human actions affect the environment and how science can support positive change. By the end of primary school, pupils will have the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to navigate an increasingly scientific and technological world, preparing them for the next stage of their education and for life beyond school.
