At St Peter's CE Primary School, our vision is for every child to develop a deep curiosity about the world, beginning with their immediate surroundings and expanding outward to understand the diverse people, places and environments that shape our planet. We want pupils to see themselves as capable, responsible global citizens who understand how the Earth works, how humans interact with it, and how they can contribute to a more sustainable future.
Our geography curriculum broadens pupils’ understanding of the world by building from what is familiar— their school, local area and community—towards the wider regions of the UK, Europe and the world. Through this journey, pupils develop secure knowledge of physical geography (such as weather, climate, rivers, coasts and natural processes) and human geography (including settlements, land use, population and economic activity).
We aim for pupils to think like geographers: asking questions, interpreting maps, analysing data, using fieldwork skills and making connections between people, places and environments. Sustainability is woven throughout the curriculum, helping pupils understand how human choices impact the planet and how they can contribute to positive change.
By the end of primary school, pupils will have the knowledge, skills and confidence to navigate the world around them, appreciate its diversity and complexity, and be well prepared for the next stage of their education and life beyond school.
