Uniform

Our School Uniform

Our values of aspiration, PEACE, HOPE and JOY are promoted at all times and our dedicated team strive to ensure all children are ready for their next steps. It is therefore our policy that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos. We also believe it is important that certain activities are facilitated by specialised and appropriate clothing when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours.

Aims

We believe that pupils should wear clothing that is comfortable, practical and in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos. Our policy is based on the belief that a school uniform;

  • Promotes a sense of pride in the school.
  • Creates a feeling of community and belonging.
  • Is practical and smart. · Identifies the children with the school.
  • Is not distracting in class (as fashion clothes might be).
  • Makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance.
  • Is regarded as suitable, and good value for money, by most parents
  • Has been designed with health and safety in mind.

Footwear

The school wants all children to grow into healthy adults. We believe that it is dangerous for children to wear shoes that have platform soles, high heels or open toes, so we do not allow children to wear such shoes in our school. Neither do we allow children to wear trainers to school; this is because we think that this footwear is appropriate for sport or for leisurewear, but is not in keeping with the smart appearance of a school uniform. Pupils should therefore wear black shoes. Black boots are permitted in the Winter time.

Hairstyles

An appropriate hairstyle is expected to be worn by all pupils. One which is neat, tidy and not out of the ordinary. Artificially coloured hair is not permitted in school.

Jewellery and Make-Up

For Health and Safety reasons children with pierced ears may only wear one small plain smooth round stud in each ear. Children should not wear studs in their noses, tongues or lips etc. A plain, and appropriately sized, proper wrist watch may be worn. When children participate in P.E./dance/games/swimming/drama on a particular day, no jewellery is to be worn at all and children should attend school without it. Any jewellery to be worn in school is the direct responsibility of the parent and child. If jewellery needs to removed during the day, it is the responsibility of the child or the parent to remove it and look after it. Teachers are unable to remove jewellery or look after it. Plasters over ears may not be worn as they do not protect the ears from damage if an earring is contained within them. Parents intending to have their child’s ears pierced must do so at the start of the summer holidays as children are not allowed to do any physical activity (as above) wearing earrings or with plasters over their ears.

Make-up in any form is not permitted; this includes coloured lip salves.
