Collective Worship Council

Here at St. Peter’s C. of E. Primary Academy, our Collective Worship Council is at the heart of any decisions we make towards our Christian and religious celebrations within school.

From Year 1 to Year 6, ‘The Chosen Twelve’, children (one boy and one girl) each year are voted in by their peers and they are responsible for attending half-termly meetings and giving feedback to their classes to ensure we continue to provide the highest of spiritual and moral guidance possible.

The children take great pride in their responsibilities and enjoy contributing to the Christian ethos of the school. The children very much lead the council meeting under the supervision and safety of the Head of School.

Children and staff see it as a huge privilege to be part of the Collective Worship Council and the children thrive within the opportunities given throughout the school year.

Some of their many jobs include;

  • Preparing the worship space for coming together: altar, chairs, computer etc.
  • Writing prayers to be read in Collective Worship
  • Epitomising by their actions both our school visions and values.
  • Meeting to plan collective worship and undertaking their roles therein effectively
  • Feeding back the minutes of our meetings to their class teams, as well as taking new suggestions to share
  • Monitoring the playground, looking for children who don’t have anyone to play with to make sure that, ‘…everyone is valued and valuable.’
  • Looking for children who are using their St. Peter’s values of Peace, Hope & Joy
  • Helping adults in Collective Worship and in church services by acting out plays, telling stories and reading prayers.

Thank you to all our councillors for spreading, Peace, Hope & Joy to all!
