“Life in all its fullness” (John 10:10)
At St Peter’s CE Primary School, our curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision that all are made in the image of God and are therefore valued, valuable and empowered to be the best they can be. We are committed to providing every child with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to flourish academically, socially and emotionally. Through rich and ambitious learning experiences, we seek to broaden horizons, raise aspirations and help pupils recognise the opportunities available to them, enabling them to experience life in all its fullness.
Our curriculum has been carefully designed and sequenced to ensure that learning builds progressively from the Early Years through to Year 6. Across all subjects, pupils develop secure substantive knowledge alongside the disciplinary knowledge needed to think, work and communicate as historians, scientists, artists, geographers, mathematicians, readers and writers. Carefully selected subject-specific vocabulary enables pupils to communicate their understanding with increasing precision and confidence. Key concepts are revisited over time, allowing pupils to strengthen their understanding, make meaningful connections and commit important learning to long-term memory.
Through carefully planned opportunities for retrieval, practice and application, pupils are supported to remember more and know more over time. We believe that learning should not be fleeting. Instead, pupils build secure foundations of knowledge that prepare them for future learning and enable them to make connections across subjects and year groups.
We believe that every child deserves access to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum. There is no hierarchy of subjects at St Peter’s. Whilst reading, writing and mathematics provide essential foundations for learning, all curriculum areas are valued equally and contribute to the development of knowledgeable, confident and well-rounded individuals. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantaged pupils, access the full breadth of our ambitious curriculum and achieve success within it.
Our curriculum reflects both our local community and the wider world. Pupils develop an understanding of the rich history, geography and culture of Lincolnshire whilst also exploring diverse perspectives, societies and experiences beyond their immediate environment. We believe that children should be able to see possibilities for their future that extend beyond what they already know. Through carefully selected content, meaningful experiences and exposure to a wide range of careers, cultures and achievements, we aim to broaden horizons, challenge perceived limitations and inspire ambition. Pupils are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, show curiosity and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Our values of Peace, Hope and Joy are woven throughout the curriculum. We teach pupils to respect themselves and others, approach challenges with resilience and optimism, and find joy in discovery, creativity and achievement. Alongside academic success, we seek to develop pupils who are compassionate, respectful, resilient and courageous, preparing them to contribute positively to their communities and wider society.
Through high-quality teaching, rich learning experiences and ambitious curriculum design, we aim to ensure that every child leaves St Peter’s with the knowledge, character, confidence and aspiration to succeed in the next stage of their education and beyond. We want our pupils to leave us believing in their own potential, equipped to make a positive contribution to society and ready to pursue futures that are ambitious, fulfilling and meaningful.
