Our Approach to Handwriting

At St. Peter’s C. of E. Primary Academy, we are very proud of our pupil’s handwriting and take particular care in our handwriting style. We use Letter-join’s on-line handwriting resource and Lesson Planners as the basis of our handwriting policy as it covers all the requirements of the National Curriculum.

Pupils are taught to use a cursive script in handwriting lessons, which is then encouraged throughout all other curriculum areas.

Pupils in EYFS and KS1 are explicitly taught how to begin to form and join letters before progressing into KS2 where they begin to use cursive-style, joined writing fluently and with confidence.

Lessons are taught weekly, using the online guides and practice sheets.
