    Geography Vision Statement

In Geography, we endeavour to broaden children’s real-life experiences, providing a comprehensive curriculum for all our learners. Developing a global understanding, students will pose questions and seek answers as they explore their immediate locality, before journeying into the wider world beyond. Pupils will immerse themselves in a variety of diverse countries and cultures, gathering self-awareness which will empower them to become respectful and responsible citizens, able to navigate a complex and ever-changing world.

    Subject Intent

At St. Peter’s Primary Academy, in line with the school ethos of ‘life in all its fullness’ and the school vision of celebrating our unique differences and developing the self-esteem of each unique learner, Geography encourages the learner to ask and answer questions of the immediate and the wider world around them, including both the natural and human aspects. Geography is about creating a curious mind-set, and developing a firm ‘sense of place’, learning about where they live, and, from that, to an understanding and evaluation of the wider world. We want to inspire a fascination about the world which will remain with them for the rest of their lives; a ‘safe space’ within which contentious and debated issues can be analysed and investigated fully. Our pupils will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to take into their daily lives, better informing their personal choices and enabling them to become global citizens who interact with the world with care, tolerance and empathy. Being a geographer is being curious about the world and how we live in it.
