    PSHE Vision Statement

At St Peter’s, our PSHE curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision that all are made in the image of God and are valued, valuable and empowered to be the best we can be. Through PSHE, we want every child to develop the knowledge, confidence and character they need to live “life in all its fullness.”

Our curriculum helps pupils to understand themselves, care for others, build respectful relationships and make safe, informed choices. It supports children to develop emotional literacy, resilience, empathy and a strong sense of personal responsibility. Pupils learn how to keep themselves and others safe, both offline and online, and how to seek help from trusted adults when needed.

PSHE at St Peter’s promotes peace, hope and joy by helping children to manage conflict, celebrate difference, look after their wellbeing and approach the future with confidence.

    Subject Intent

Our PSHE curriculum is carefully sequenced from EYFS to Year 6 so that pupils build knowledge over time. Each year begins with mental health and wellbeing, giving pupils the language and strategies to understand their thoughts, feelings and reactions. This learning is then revisited and developed through units on friendships, families, safety, online life, physical health, money, risk, puberty, consent, first aid, careers and transition.

We teach PSHE in a way that is age appropriate, inclusive and relevant to children’s lives. Early learning focuses on feelings, friendships, family, trusted adults and simple safety routines. As pupils move through school, they revisit these ideas with increasing depth, learning about managing risk, respectful relationships, online safety, financial choices, media literacy, stereotypes, prejudice, body ownership, puberty, consent and future aspirations.

Our curriculum meets statutory requirements for Relationships Education and Health Education, and supports pupils’ wider personal development. Some content, such as money, careers, environmental responsibility and AI literacy, goes beyond the statutory minimum because we want pupils to be well prepared for modern life.

By the time pupils leave St Peter’s, they will have the knowledge, vocabulary and confidence to understand themselves, respect others, make informed choices, recognise risk, seek help and move forward into secondary school with hope and self-belief.
