Welcome to Year 1, where children take the exciting next step in their learning journey, building on the strong foundations laid in Reception.

In Year 1, we place a strong emphasis on phonics, ensuring that all children develop the skills and confidence they need to become fluent readers. Through daily phonics teaching and carefully matched reading opportunities, children are supported to decode, understand and enjoy a wide range of texts. Reading is at the heart of our curriculum, and we encourage a love of books both in school and at home.

As the year progresses, children are gently supported to grow in independence, taking increasing responsibility for their learning and organisation. We provide a stimulating and structured environment where children are encouraged to think for themselves, make choices and develop resilience.

Our engaging curriculum offers a balance of practical, hands-on experiences alongside more structured learning, helping children transition successfully into Key Stage 1. We are committed to ensuring every child feels confident, capable and excited about learning every day.
